Serving Fairfax, VA

The brilliantly designed BMW X1 delivers all of the premium qualities that the brand is known for, along with entry-level pricing. This subcompact crossover SUV is currently in its third generation, introducing a few updates for you to enjoy in the 2026 model year. What are the differences between the 2025 and 2026 BMW X1 crossovers?

Performance

Both of the BMW X1’s trim levels are fun to drive with powerful engines and impressive agility. The base xDrive28i is equipped with a turbo 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine. This engine produces 241 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The M35i has a sport-tuned version of this turbo four-cylinder engine. This system delivers 312 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Both systems feature a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. Adaptive suspension dampers and upgraded brakes enhance the M35i’s performance.

Appearance

While the BMW X1 remains largely unchanged for the 2026 model year, a few new paint color options are now available. The expanded palette now includes Vegas Red, Night Dusk Blue, Dune Grey, and Portimao Blue. The engaging style is otherwise comparable to the 2025 X1. The X1 strikes a balance of sportiness and sophistication, featuring a tall yet angled roofline and tapered side windows. The well-defined fenders and sharp accentuation on the lower door panels enhance the look. The classic kidney-style grille that BMW is known for has an edgy quality, which is carried through the sharply styled front bumper and air vents. The headlights are flared and sport a pair of angled LED bars.

Features

The 2025 and 2026 X1 crossover SUVs are comparably equipped. The xDrive 28i comes with a dual-zone auto climate control system, a 10.7-inch touch display screen, a power liftgate, wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument panel, heated front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, a forward collision warning with accident avoidance, front and rear parking sensors, a lane departure warning, and a blind-spot warning. The top trim adds a wireless charging pad and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. Optional features include hands-free driving, remote engine start, sport seats, an interior camera, a sport steering wheel with paddle shifters, and others.
