Our sales associates at BMW of Fairfax are often asked about the differences between the 2023 X5 and the X7. These are midsize crossover SUVs with bold appeal, and they both debuted their current generation in the 2019 model year. Despite these similarities and their relationship as close siblings, the X5 and the X7 have sharp differences. At BMW of Fairfax, we want you to make a new SUV selection that delivers pure enjoyment over the years, and we are available to support you with your model research.

Both the 2023 X5 and the X7 are available with three powertrain options. You will find a 523-horsepower, 4.4-liter turbo V8 system in both of these crossover SUVs. The other options available for the X5 are a 335-horsepower, turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 system and its 389-horsepower, plug-in hybrid variant. The other options for the 2023 X7 are a 375-horsepower, I-6 turbo, 3.0-liter engine, and a 4.4-liter, sport-tuned V8, 630-horsepower system.

With a closer look at the exteriors of the X5 and the X7, you will discover that these models have cascading hoods, tall roofs, and distinctive grilles. While the X7’s grille is more extensive, both models have vertical bars and a segmented look through their grilles. On the X5, the scalloped headlights with upper LED light bars add class to the front end. On the X7, the headlights have a piercing, slanted quality. The front bumper is also dressed with athletic air vents for a dominant look. The X7 stands apart with its raised rails on the roof and lower accents running across the side doors.

Both of these BMW crossovers offer a range of trim levels, and the specific features in the models vary by trim. However, in both models, you can take advantage of features like massaging and heated front seats, leather upholstery, a surround-view camera, parking sensors with an auto parking system, a four-zone climate control system, a head-up display, remote engine start, an infotainment system with gesture control, three rows, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a navigation system and more.
