Serving Fairfax, VA

For Fairfax-area drivers in the market for a compact luxury crossover SUV, it may be difficult to overlook the magnetic appeal of the BMW X3. The X3 is the premium model that has been delighting drivers in Virginia for almost two decades and has been evolving throughout that time. Now that you are interested in upgrading to a new crossover SUV, you should be aware of the differences between the 2021 and 2022 BMW X3.

Performance

For both 2021 and 2022, the BMW X3 is available with two powertrains. The base-level engine for both years is a TwinPower Turbo 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that generates 248 horsepower. It comes with rear-wheel and all-wheel drive at various trim levels. In the 2022 BMW X3, the M40i’s engine now has mild-hybrid technology. This six-cylinder engine also comes with an enhanced starter-generator that gives the X3 superior efficiency.

Appearance

You can quickly tell the 2021 and 2022 X3 crossovers apart on the road, thanks to the revised designs on the headlights and taillights. The modernized lights are combined with the same tall profile and two-part grille you will find on both model years. The extended definition through the side panels, lower-body molding, and geometrically designed lower-front fascia are unchanged. You can appreciate equipment like a sunroof, heated side mirrors, LED lights, and keyless entry throughout the exterior for both model years.

Features

There is one other significant difference between the 2021 X3 and the 2022 version. For 2022, the Driving Assistance Professional package now includes Traffic Jam Assist. The many other standard and available features in the X3 are found in both model years. These include an advanced sound system, premium materials, a 12.3-inch display screen, heated seats, an auto climate control system, a cloud-based navigation system, iDrive 7.0, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and more.
