2020 BMW 3 Series vs 2020 BMW 5 Series

Serving Fairfax, VA

Are you debating between buying a new 3 Series sedan or a 5 Series sedan? These are both executive cars with undeniable appeal and superior luxuries. Each model has more than 45 years of history, impressing drivers in Fairfax and far beyond, and they are both in their seventh generations. Despite these apparent similarities, the 3 Series is placed below the 5 Series in the 2020 BMW lineup. It is a smaller and more affordable vehicle, but these are not their only differences. In-depth research will help you to identify the perfect BMW sedan for your expectations and desires.

Performance

For 2020, the BMW 3 Series and 5 Series are available with multiple trims that are progressively advanced. The primary engine across the 3 Series line is a 2.0-liter, TwinPower Turbo I-4 gas engine linked to an automatic eight-speed sport transmission. It receives 255 horsepower from this combination. Performance is also elevated by standard features like Launch Control, manual shift modes, and paddle shifters. In comparison, the entry-level trim for the 5 Series has a similar powertrain and mechanical features. The 5 Series is also available with other powertrain options. For example, the top-of-the-line M Performance trim has a 4.4-liter, V8 TwinPower Turbo engine that will please you with its 523 horsepower delivery.

Appearance

Size is only one of several exterior design differences between these two vehicles. They have a comparable grille design featuring BMW’s traditional bow-like design. The grille on both models is accented with chrome and is contiguous with scooped, LED headlights. For the 3 Series, the lights have two scoops. The lower-front accent piece is comprised of three sections, including side pieces with an arrow-like quality. Across the side panels on the 3 Series, you will see a gentle scoop that runs horizontally and a second accent piece that angles up decadently. The 5 Series, on the other hand, has a sectioned air vent with a smoother definition on the lower front panel. The headlights show off three LED light scoops. The sides have dual character lines that run perfectly level from front to rear.

Features

Both of these sedans have modern, elegant interior designs. While there is a noticeable difference in the feature line at higher trim levels, the 3 Series and 5 Series for 2020 have many shared features at their base trim levels. These include a Connected Care Package, HD Radio, ambient lighting, Apple CarPlay, leather, and heated seats, a Hi-Fi sound system, and many other features.
